“Necessity is the mother of invention” is a phrase that captures the essence of Francois Cote’s challenge. Cote developed drop foot as a result of a car accident and subsequent surgeries. However, he wanted to remain very active. Traditional AFO’s did not hold up to his active lifestyle, therefore he decided to design one himself. With the assistance of Stephane Sevard, co-inventor, Cote and Savard challenged traditional thinking.
Why can’t an AFO be fitted outside the shoe? Why can’t it be more durable? Why can’t it be unbreakable? Why can’t it be dynamic? Why can’t it have a two-year warranty? This creative thinking led to a novel AFO design.
After 5 years of development, the result is the TurboMed FS 3000 AFO which was introduced to the US in 2015.
